Alex Tanney ‘excited’ with vibe and direction of Giants

Entering the offseason, veteran quarterback Alex Tanney had no idea what the future held. There was a very real possibility he would not be brought back with the New York Giants, who appeared destined to finally find Eli Manning’s eventual heir.

And while the Giants did exactly that, selecting Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, they made the early decision to re-sign Tanney as well.

That came as welcomed news for Tanney, who admits he’s very “excited” over both the vibe and direction of this current Giants team.

“I didn’t really know what was going to happen going into free agency,” said Tanney, via the New York Post. “My agent called me, I was thrilled to be back in this building. I’ve been in quite a few locker rooms over the last seven or eight years. I’m real excited about the vibe and the direction this team is headed.”

As far as Jones’ presence, Tanney isn’t dismayed. He knows what his job is and he knows what the future holds for Jones.

“Daniel’s been a great addition,” Tanney said. “He does a good job, he’s in there early, he’s always asking questions. He’s in there after practice with us watching film. You can tell he’s picking up on stuff fairly quickly. I think that’s a good sign.”

Tanney likely has the leg-up in landing the third and final quarterback spot on the 53-man, but he’ll still need to perform well in training camp as sophomore Kyle Lauletta will be breathing down his neck in a fight for his own survival.
