Alex Smith’s leg brace after devastating injury was turned into an incredible trophy

One of the best stories of the 2020 NFL season will be Alex Smith and his comeback from a horrifying leg injury.

Just returning to the field made it an awe-inspiring story. But after that, he helped the Washington Football Team make it to the playoffs after a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. After all that he’s been through — 17 surgeries on his broken leg that included a battle with sepsis that could have ended with amputation — it’s just incredible.

Before Sunday night’s game, Smith’s wife Elizabeth posted a photo on Instagram of her husband’s leg brace that had been turned into an incredible trophy, one that looked a lot like the Lombardi Trophy:

“Waiting for this game and I’m a nervous wreck. I look up at our bookshelves as a reminder of where we have been and the hard work to get to this moment. No matter the outcome, Alex has already won. He has beat the largest challenge life has thrown our way. I am incredibly proud and will be cheering loud. Let’s go Washington!”

Just amazing, and what a symbol to remind everyone of what Smith has gotten through.
