Alex Scott joins Strictly line-up 2019! Former England football star is next on BBC's list for new series

Former Lioness and Match of the Day star Alex Scott is the latest star to join the line-up for Strictly Come Dancing 2019.

The former professional footballer, who was previously Arsenal Women's Captain, was confirmed as the show's latest signing this morning.

"I am absolutely buzzing to be signed up to Strictly," Scott said. "It's the show I've always wanted to do and I can't believe I'm finally going to be part of it.

"I'm super excited, but also terrified at the same time... The football pitch is a bit less glam than the ballroom, but I'm ready to try the sequins and dresses! Bring it on!"

The 34-year-old is a regular sports pundit for BBC and Sky Sports and often features on Match of the Day.

When she retired from professional football in 2017, she was the second most capped England player with 140 appearances for the national team.

She has form when it comes to success on the Strictly dance floor, having already been crowned the winner of the show's Sport Relief special in 2018 when she was paired with professional dancer Pasha Kovalev.

Scott will join stars including former footballer David James, YouTuber Saffron Barkley, EastEnders actress Emma Barton, BBC Breakfast's Mike Bushell, comedian Chris Ramsey, CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual, Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley, RuPaul's Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, Viscountess Emma Weymouth, Made In Chelsea's Jamie Laing and Paralympian Will Bayley.

Three further stars are set to be announced later this week.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
