Former First Minister Alex Salmond is to make a public statement at 2pm amid hopes by pro-independence allies he will stand as a Holyrood candidate.
Salmond is no longer in the SNP after falling out with Nicola Sturgeon and political observers have been wondering about his next move.
Other pro-independence parties are contesting the election and Salmond would be a prize catch as candidate. It is understood one of these outfits, Action for Independence, would welcome him as a candidate.
However, the media release he put out which flagged up a 2pm statement did not mention the subject of what he will be talking about.
