Alex Salmond Inquiry agrees date for former First Minister to give evidence to MSPs

The Holyrood Inquiry has agreed a date for Alex Salmond to give evidence in person after a squabble over timing.

MSPs will invite the former First Minister to appear on February 9.

A special Holyrood committee is investigating the Government’s unlawful handling of sexual misconduct complaints against Salmond.

His allies believe he was targeted by the Government he used to lead, while Sturgeon has rejected “conspiracy theories”.

A raft of witnesses have given evidence so far, but MSPs have yet to hear from Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon in person.

The Committee had wanted to hear from Salmond this month, but the Nationalist heavyweight declined, citing lockdown rules.

He was then told early February was the cut-off point.

Salmond’s lawyer David McKie said his client would be available in the week beginning 8th February.

It is understood the Committee has agreed to invite him on February 9th.

Salmond’s evidence could be explosive as he has already accused Sturgeon of misleading the inquiry and the parliament.
