Alex Salmond cancels Inquiry appearance after Holyrood redacts his 'bombshell' evidence

Alex Salmond will not be appearing at the Holyrood Inquiry tomorrow after a row over the publication of his evidence.

The First Minister is believed to be considering his options after the Parliament redacted part of a submission which blasted Nicola Sturgeon.

A Scottish Parliament spokesperson said: “Mr Salmond has informed the Committee that he will not be attending tomorrow’s meeting to give evidence. The Committee will instead meet in private to discuss the implications of Mr Salmond’s response and the next steps for its work.”

In a letter to the Inquiry, Salmond’s lawyer said: “He remains willing to attend on Friday.”

The confusion was caused after the Parliament published Salmond's submissions, described by the Tories as "bombshell", then pulled some of the material down after a legal warning by the Crown Office.

It was then republished, but Salmond's lawyer believe this posed a legal risk to his client appearing in front of the Inquiry.
