Alex Salmond blocks release of probe papers in Holyrood inquiry into misconduct complaints

ALEX Salmond has blocked the release of government papers to the Holyrood inquiry into how complaints against him were handled, it can be revealed.

It is understood Salmond is the unnamed person referred to by Cabinet Secretary John Swinney in a letter to MSPs last month.

In 2018, the Daily Record revealed that the Government had investigated complaints of sexual misconduct by two women against Salmond.

The former SNP leader pursued a judicial review and the internal Government probe was ruled to be unlawful and tainted by apparent bias.

The botched investigation cost the taxpayer over £500,000 and led to a special Holyrood committee being set up.

MSPs staging the inquiry have asked the government for documents relating to the Government probe to be released to them.

But Swinney said last month in a letter than an unnamed individual had made a formal objection.

Now it can be revealed that the individual is Salmond himself.

It is understood the objection was lodged on behalf of Salmond, but it is unclear which documents have been blocked.

Aside from the objection, Salmond has championed transparency during the inquiry.

Salmond did not respond to an email.
