Alex Salmond behind Boris Johnson as most unpopular political leader in Scotland

A new opinion poll has shown Alex Salmond is the most unpopular party leader in Scotland, even behind Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The former First Minister finished bottom of the pile with a net favourability rating of -51 per cent, which is 23 per cent lower than the Tory PM.

A survey, for The Scotsman and conducted by Savanta ComRes, asked 1,007 adults aged 16 and above from across Scotland between April 2 and 7 a number of questions on political leaders in the UK.

In the favourability ratings Salmond is currently 70 points being Nicola Sturgeon who is on +20 per cent, which is up three percent compared to last month.

Johnson's ratings among Scots has risen by two per cent to -28 per cent.

The poll shows that two thirds of those surveyed believed Salmond to be untrustworthy, dishonest and disingenuous.

However, almost 50 per cent of people believe the former SNP leader is intelligent.

Of those asked 63 per cent believed Salmond was unfit for public office.

Scottish Labour leader, who performed well at the first TV debate, is up two per cent in his favourability ratings.

He is now sitting at +2 per cent.

Tory leader Douglas Ross and Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie's ratings are level on -11 per cent.

Willie Rennie, Scottish Lib Dem leader, is also down one per cent at -7, while Lorna Slater, who also performed well at the TV debate, was up one per cent on -5.
