Alex Salmond accusers complain to police about supporter's 'threatening' comments

Two of Alex Salmond’s accusers have complained to the police about “threatening” comments by a pro-independence supporter.

The women contacted Police Scotland after Mark Hirst claimed the “precious anonymity” of the Salmond complainants may not continue.

The former first minister was cleared after nine women accused him of sexual assault, including an attempted rape charge.

It is a criminal offence to publish the identities of the women.

However, in a YouTube video Hirst said: “I suspect very strongly that as this rumbles on, that precious anonymity they’ve sought will not be continued.

“Because these women, and not just these women, some of the people involved in this are senior members of the Scottish Government.”

The Salmond hardliner added: “And they’ve been involved in this active collusion to try and destroy Alex Salmond ’s reputation and there’s not a cat’s chance in hell they’re going to get away with that.

“So they’re going to reap a whirlwind, no question about it.”

A spokesman for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: “If the Crown becomes aware of press coverage or social media postings that may give rise to a potential contempt, careful consideration will be given to whether any further procedure is required.”

Sandy Brindley of Rape Crisis Scotland blasted Hirst’s video, saying: “This behaviour should be condemned in the strongest possible terms by all parties.”

Hirst could not be reached for comment last night.
