TAMPA, Fla. _ The days of Alex Rodriguez, guest instructor, apparently are fast approaching.
It is anticipated the former slugger, now a special adviser to managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner, will be at Yankees camp next week.
According to an ESPN report, the 41-year-old will be in camp for three days.
"He's just going to do what everybody else does," GM Brian Cashman said Thursday morning. "When he comes in, (bench coach) Rob Thomson and Joe Girardi will tell him where and what."
Though much was made Wednesday of Steinbrenner saying he "absolutely" would be open to Rodriguez having an expanded role within the organization, few reported the follow-up when the owner was asked what he might have in mind.
"Haven't thought about it," Steinbrenner replied. "He was down in instructional league (in the fall) working with those guys, the young shortstops. He was great and right now that's what he's going to be focused on."
