WATCH: Alex Rodriguez on his PED suspension: ‘I fell from the Empire State Building’

Alex Rodriguez reflected on his 2014 season suspension for a violation of MLB’s performance enhancing drug policy in a recent Sports Illustrated profile.

“I fell from the Empire State Building. Nobody pushed me. I (expletive) jumped. No parachute. I have no one to blame for myself. But what’s changed is, I got my [expletive] humbled. I paid a deep penalty. I’ve learned lessons. And I’m different.”

While the former Bronx Bomber has turned things around nicely — playing two seasons after suspension before retiring from the playing field, only to become even more popular since — he says the time away caused him to grow in necessary ways. Rodriguez explained the type of maturity he gained during his time off that season as learning the things a young man would typically learn in his late teens or early 20s, during college as opposed to facing players twice their age in growing up in the Majors.
