Alex Rodman opens up on shift in style between Ben Garner and former Bristol Rovers manager Graham Coughlan

Alex Rodman admits there has been a big shift at Bristol Rovers since Ben Garner took over as manager.

Garner has been in charge of the Gas since Graham Coughlan's shock departure in December and has overseen a change in philosophy at the club.

Yet his arrival also coincided with a downturn in results, and Rovers winger Rodman says his methods took some getting used to.

"We were in an excellent position up until Christmas but then there were a few changes," he told Utilita Energy & Utilita Ambassador, Gary Newbon MBE.

"The manager and assistant manager left quite abruptly.

"We'd just beaten Ipswich away 2-1 and gone up to third in the league at the time.

"Then we had a bit of a changeover period and the new manager came in, who is excellent, a fantastic young coach.

"Ben Garner has worked at a lot of big clubs, Crystal Palace and West Brom, and his coaching is excellent but a very, very different style to our previous manager.

"It took some time to bed in and understand.

"The game before we were suspended, we beat Sunderland at home 2-0 and the hard work on the training ground really came out in that game.

"The performance was fantastic against a big team at home.

"It was always going to be a long road to change the philosophy and the playing style from what we had before to what we are now.

"It was a shame the break came at the time it did as we were just beginning to see some of the fruits of what we'd worked on at the training ground."
