The teen spy Alex Rider will be back on IMDb TV soon, and despite his hankering for a more normal adolescence he’s going to be pitched back into the clandestine underworld of espionage.
There’s a big new addition to the cast for season two as well.

“After the success of season one, I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to reassemble our fantastic cast for this second, action-packed adventure… with the added bonus of Toby Stephens in a key role,” said Anthony Horowitz, author of the Alex Rider franchise and of two James Bond novels.

IMDb has released a synopsis of where the next season will lead.
“Alex is still reeling from the traumatic events at Point Blanc, and desperately wants to return to a normal life. But when his new friend Sabina’s father, journalist Ed Pleasance, is attacked by Yassen Gregorovich, the man who may have killed his uncle, Alex reluctantly finds himself drawn back into the world of international espionage.
“Cut loose from his one-time allies within shadowy MI6 division The Department, Alex discovers a link between Ed, a dangerous hacker known as Smoking Mirror, and tech billionaire Damian Cray.
“With the help of his guardian Jack and trusted friend Tom, Alex must unravel a sinister political plot with global repercussions, the answer to which may be locked within Cray’s latest product, the global phenomenon video game Feathered Serpent.
Who is in Alex Rider season 2?
Otto Farrant
The 24-year-old has popped up in a few major TV series so far, including the BBC’s version of War and Peace from 2016 and the mystery thriller Mrs Wilson. He’s been appearing on stage since 2008 though, when he played Robin in the The Merry Wives of Windsor at The Globe.
Vicky McClure
McClure has been Line of Duty’s DI Kate Fleming since 2012, and her other long-running role is as Lol in Shane Meadows’ This is England series. She was also in the first series of ITV’s hit crime drama Broadchurch with Olivia Colman and David Tennant, playing Karen White.
Toby Stephens
After making his bow in the period drama The Camomile Lawn, Stephens’s work has combined mid-century period roles like that of the traitor Kim Philby in Cambridge Spies, and sci-fi fare like the revival of Lost in Space.
His most famous role, however, must remain that of Bond villain Gustav Graves in Die Another Day, the new alias of a North Korean general who had gene therapy to turn himself into an English establishment darling.
Stephen Dillane
Dillane’s filmography includes spy films like Robert Redford’s Spy Game and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, and more recently he appeared in the Oscar-winning Churchill film Darkest Hour.
You’ll definitely recognise him as Stannis Baratheon in Game of Thrones, as Rear Admiral Shaw in the BBC’s submarine thriller Vigil and as the artist Graham Sutherland in the first season of The Crown.
