Alex Reid could miss the birth of 'miracle' baby while he's jailed for 8 weeks

Alex Reid could miss the birth of his baby while he is in prison.

The former cage fighter, who is best known for once being married to Katie Price, has been jailed for contempt of court for eight weeks after he lied in a witness statement for a compensation claim following a car crash.

His fiancée Nikki Manashe is seven months pregnant with their first child together after years of trying through IVF.

He will serve half of his sentence in prison and the other half spent on licence following his release.

The terms of his licence mean he will follow a set of strict rules, which will likely include a curfew.

This means he could be cutting it very fine with Nikki's due date approaching.

His lawyer Gary Pons argued that Alex should be spared jailed as he's about to become a dad.

Sentencing him to eight weeks in prison, Mrs Justice Eady said she took into account the mitigation put forward on his behalf, including the pregnancy and that he has recently been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome.

But the judge said that only a jail term would reflect the serious nature of his dishonesty.

The High Court had heard on Wednesday how Alex made a county court claim for about £20,000 in compensation after an Audi driven by him was involved in a collision with another driver in January 2018.

He said in a sworn statement as part of the claim that he did not know a motorbike rider called Darren Summers, who it was claimed had witnessed the crash.

However, the other motorist's insurers, Axa Insurance UK, discovered an article on a local news website about an appearance Reid had made at a mixed martial arts (MMA) masterclass in Ipswich in September 2017, which Mr Summers had organised.

Alex admitted contempt of court when Axa initiated High Court committal proceedings against him in January this year.

They tragically suffered multiple miscarriages before their "miracle" baby was conceived.

In November 2020, the couple confirmed Nikki was four weeks pregnant with twins, but she sadly lost one.

Their baby girl is due in July.
