Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain signs new Liverpool contract until 2023

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has signed a one-year extension to his Liverpool contract.

The midfielder, who joined the Reds from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2017, has penned fresh terms that will keep him at the club until 2023.

On signing the deal, he told the club's official website: “I’m really, really excited - it’s been in the pipeline for a little while, so it’s nice to finally get it done and just extend my time here, which I am really looking forward to.

“I feel like I missed out on a year, which I obviously did, so it’s really exciting for me to be able to sign. It’s something that I feel is an opportunity to give that year back and make up for lost time – and hopefully put in some good performances to make amends for not being around last year.”

“You’ve got to count your blessings every time you get an opportunity like this, you don’t get the chance to play for Liverpool Football Club every day. I am really excited to be able to extend my time here.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain's new contract comes in recognition of the hard work that has seen him bounce back from the serious knee injury he suffered last April.

The Englishman sustained damage to his anterior cruciate ligament, lateral collateral ligament and medial ligament during the first leg of a Champions League semi-final meeting with AS Roma.

The subsequent surgery and rehabilitation process necessitated over 12 months without first-team action for the 26-year-old.

However, he made his return during Liverpool's Anfield meeting with Huddersfield toward the back end of last season, appearing from the bench as the hosts won 5-0.

And the former Arsenal man showed signs of getting back to his best as the Reds beat Southampton at St Mary's last weekend.
