Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's brilliant Liverpool gesture as squad number change confirmed

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will pay out of his own pocket to reimburse supporters having switched his Liverpool squad number from 21 to 15.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has taken on the new number after it was vacated by departing Reds striker Daniel Sturridge.

The Liverpool midfielder wore the number 15 while with Arsenal and was given the same squad number when in the 23-man England party for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had worn the number 21 jersey at Liverpool since arriving from the Emirates in August 2017.

And as a gesture to supporters who have already purchased a 2019-20 replica shirt printed with ‘Chamberlain 21’, the player will personally reimburse fans by way of a like-for-like exchange for a ‘Chamberlain 15’ jersey.

The offer applies to all shirts purchased in official club outlets and via the official LFC online store before midnight on June 5.

Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to action in April having missed almost exactly 12 months following a serious knee injury suffered in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma at Anfield.
