Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opens up on his "frustrations" at Liverpool and makes new vow

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been forced to endure an injury-hit four years at Liverpool.

The midfielder made the move to Anfield from Arsenal in 2017 and has helped the Reds triumph in the Premier League and Champions League.

He hasn't featured as much as he would've liked during those successes, with injuries hampering his involvement.

Liverpool spent £35m on Oxlade-Chamerlain but in the 2018/19 campaign he made just two appearances.

Last term he also saw his season hit by injury and admits the perception of him always being sidelined is a frustration.

He told the club's website : "I don't really think that I've had, like, loads of injuries, but the ones I've had are big and they've kept me out for long spells, which I think sometimes makes people think I'm always injured. That's a bit of a frustrating one.

"But during those spells and the battle to come back and prove yourself and whatever, I've sort of had to remind myself that through all of that at this point in my career, I'm still lucky enough to be at an amazing football club like Liverpool and how lucky I am to have that opportunity to still be in this environment, competing at this level."

Having joined Arsenal as a teenager Oxlade-Chamberlain has always enjoyed life near the top.

In north London he won three FA Cups in four years before heading to Merseyside and admits it is easy to get greedy when it comes to silverware.

But upon reflect the Southampton academy graduate is grateful to still be performing at the highest level.

Liverpool again have ambitions to win the league having surrendered their title last term and Oxlade-Chamberlain will hope to play a greater role than he has previously.

Injuries though have taught the 28-year-old to embrace the present and continue putting the team's goals before his own.

He added: "It's more just about trying to enjoy every moment, keep pushing myself as much as I can to get the most out of myself and keep helping push the team to achieve as much as you can.

"Because when it's all said and done, all you've got to look back on is what we all achieved as a team. So that's where I'm at with that."

Oxlade-Chamerlain's contract expires in 2023 and he was linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer.

But with Gini Wijnaldum leaving Liverpool the Englishman is poised to play more regularly with a spot in the Three Lions squad no doubt on his radar.
