Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on his favourite goals and Liverpool legend who inspired them

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has stated his desire to add to his portfolio of stunning long-range goals, and admitted he "used to watch Stevie Gerrard smash them in."

The England midfielder has scored five times so far this season, including a spectacular strike from distance against Genk in the Champions League.

“My second goal in Genk was different,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Liverpool FC magazine.

“It’s a goal I can appreciate a lot more because of the skill of it."

The 26-year-old hasn't been shy of trying his luck from range during his time at Anfield , and has scored some breathtaking goals as a result, including a memorable finish against former club Arsenal in the league cup.

“The intensity of smashing one in, in front of the Kop, there’s no better feeling.

"The feeling I got instantly off the back of the Arsenal goal… for me, that’s what I live for,” he said.

The Southampton academy graduate professed that watching Liverpool legend Gerrard as a youth motivated him to score such goals.

“I used to watch Stevie Gerrard smash them in, in front of the Kop, and imagine the feeling that would give me. Goals like that give me a buzz like nothing else," he stated.

Oxlade-Chamberlain reflected on the difficulty of the finish he produced against Genk, and also cited his goal in the 4-3 win over Manchester City as one of his best.

“The Genk goal was a bit like, ‘Ooh, it’s gone in.’ It caught me a bit by surprise that I tried it and it actually went in!

"The technique that I tried doesn’t come off all the time, but for me the goals I scored against Man City and Arsenal in front of the Kop are my favourites"

“Afterwards I’ve probably appreciated it a lot more, but when I watch back the Man City goals and the Arsenal goal, I get goose bumps. They’re the ones I enjoy scoring more.”
