Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain offers to reimburse Liverpool fans after switching shirt number

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has offered to personally reimburse fans who have purchased new Liverpool shirts printed with his name after opting to change his squad number.

The Englishman, who inherited the No.21 jersey from Lucas Leiva following his arrival from Arsenal in the summer of 2017, will instead wear 15 for the coming campaign.

That shirt was previously occupied by Daniel Sturridge, whose imminent departure from the club on a free transfer was confirmed on Tuesday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain follows in the footsteps of not only Sturridge, but also Peter Crouch, Patrik Berger and Jamie Redknapp in taking on No.15 at Anfield.

The 25-year-old is the second Reds star who has chosen to change his number ahead of the new season.

It was previously confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker would take up the No.1 jersey for 2019-20, having worn 13 during his first year on Merseyside.

The Brazilian was unable to claim the shirt after his move from AS Roma in 2018 because Loris Karius had yet to complete a loan move ahead of the Premier League squad deadline.

However, with Karius set for another year in Turkey, the number has been freed up for next season.
