Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain injury update as Liverpool given Diogo Jota boost

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is edging nearer a return to training after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp offered a "really good" update on the midfielder's fitness.

Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn't featured since injuring his knee in a challenge during pre-season training in August.

The 27-year-old didn't require surgery with the damage believed to be similar to that suffered by Jordan Henderson at Brighton and Hove Albion in July.

While the Liverpool skipper was back in action less than 10 weeks later, a greater period of time has passed since Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury with the player still to resume full training.

Klopp, though, offered a positive update on the player's progress and that of Fabinho, who will be out until at least later this month with a hamstring complaint.

"Doing well, that's how it is with the boys," said the Reds boss.

"Especially Oxlade, it takes time but looks really good, but takes time – everybody knows that. "

Klopp also played down suggestions of a problem for Diogo Jota, who hobbled off after scoring a Champions League hat-trick at Atalanta on Tuesday having been caught by a heavy challenge.

"Nobody mentioned Diogo to me," he said, speaking to liverpoolfc.com.

"Yesterday was second day recovery, he was involved. So that looked fine."
