Liverpool need to assess the extent of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s ankle injury, which Jurgen Klopp termed a “big shadow” on their 1-0 Club World Cup final victory over Flamengo.
The midfielder, who was substituted on 75 minutes after being caught by Everton Ribeiro, was on crutches with his right ankle in a protective boot during the celebrations at Khalifa International Stadium.
"I spoke to him, he showed me the video,” Klopp said.
“He got a kick and rolled over on it when he landed. He feels ok, of course it's far from being perfect, but we have to see if it's a stretched ligament or partly ruptured or ruptured.
“It is a big shadow tonight."
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been unfortunate with injury at Liverpool, battling back from anterior cruciate ligament damage, which sidelined him for a year.
There is hope that this setback will be minor rather than major, with the absentee list of the Premier League leaders already containing Fabinho (ankle), Joel Matip (knee) and Dejan Lovren (groin) as the fixtures pile up.
Liverpool line up against Leicester and Wolves in the space of three days to close off a year in which they became the first English side to lift the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.
