Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain explains how he "let down" Liverpool teammates

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has explained how he felt he was letting his Liverpool teammates down during his injury hell.

Midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain missed 12 months of action after suffering a serious knee injury during the Reds' Champions League semi-final victory over Roma in April 2018.

The England star missed almost the entirety of last season with the lay-off, as Jurgen Klopp's men missed out on the Premier League title by one point and lifted the Champions League.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has started the season fully fit and well and truly in Klopp's plans - having appeared in all six of Liverpool's fixtures, across the Premier League, Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup, this season.

But he has admitted he felt a tinge of guilt about not being around to help his teammates last year.

Speaking to BT Sports Early Kick-Off, Oxlade-Chamberlain explained: "I think, for me, of the back of what the boys achieved last year, can I add that little bit extra?

"The boys in midfield played a lot of minutes and they all rotated really well. I've been added back into that now so it's on me to try and bring a little something or some relief to the boys when they've played a lot.

"What they achieved last year was so extraordinary. To miss out on the league in the way we did, it was really heart-breaking.

"For us, as a team, we know we need to do better. With teams like Man City, and how relentless they are, we know we have to do that.

"For me as an individual, my goals are to get back in and around the team and get back to doing something I let them down with last year by not being there."
