Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain absent from Liverpool squad training ahead of match against Sevilla on US tour

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was absent from the Liverpool squad that trained at Fenway Park on Saturday.

But there is no suggestion the midfielder has suffered any sort of injury setback.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was instead following his own specialist training programme having played for an hour in Friday’s 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in Notre Dame.

It was the longest the 25-year-old has featured since making his return after being sidelined for a year with a serious knee injury.

Liverpool are understandably being careful not to over-exert the midfielder, who Reds boss Jurgen Klopp hopes can play an important role in the coming campaign.

Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared pitchside at a baking Fenway Park in Boston towards the end of the training session and was greeted with rapturous applause from supporters.

Bobby Duncan and Adam Lallana, who missed the Dortmund game with minor knocks, were also away from the main group.

As was Nathaniel Clyne, who left suffered a blow to his right leg on Friday night.

Liverpool take on Sevilla tomorrow in the second match of their US tour.
