Alex Neil makes confident Scotland Euro claim as he quips Steve Clarke's side will 'take care' of England

Scotland will go head to head with England in a major finals for the first time since 1996 next summer - and Alex Neil reckons three points are heading into Steve Clarke 's back pocket.

The former Hamilton boss is living it up at Preston North End in the English Championship, but the Bellshill native will be supporting his country of birth when the Euros roll around.

Scotland secured their place in their first European Championships in 24 years with a nerve-shredding penalty shoot-out victory over Serbia last week.

In between clashes with the Czech Republic and Croatia, they will take on Gareth Southgate's team at Wembley. But as much as England will be the fancied side heading in, Neil reckons it won't be a problem.

"Yeah I did watch [the Serbia game]," he said in a press conference. "I was confident because we'd got through the previous round.

"Every Scotsman's disappointment would've been that we probably should've seen the game out.

"I thought they'd done more than enough in the 90 minutes, I thought they were great up until probably the last five or 10 minutes of the game.

"And then, unfortunately, we conceded the goal and to be honest I was probably more nervous in extra time than I was in the penalties.

"Listen, we'll take care of England and then look at the rest after that."
