Alex Neil emerges as West Brom managerial candidate as Baggies target former Hamilton boss

West Brom are considering a move for ex-Hamilton Accies boss Alex Neil as their next permanent manager.

Neil is currently in charge at Preston North End after originally making the switch to England with Norwich City in 2015.

West Brom installed James Shan as caretaker gaffer following Darren Moore's sacking and he was told to expect to remain in charge until the end of the season.

Shan won his first three games after stepping into the dugout but has now lost two in the space of four days.

According to reports in England, that has prompted a re-think at the Hawthorns, with the club desperate to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

They are well within the play-off spots in the Championship but could now turn to Neil to ensure they win promotion.

The 37-year-old Scot already has a promotion on his CV with Norwich - the Canaries enjoyed play-off success in 2015.

Preston's play-off hopes are all-but over and the Baggies could use the carrot of a potential return to the top-flight to tempt Neil into the job.
