Alex Morgan names England player USA must be aware of in World Cup semi-final

Alex Morgan has said the United States will swot up on Ellen White before their semi-final showdown with England.

The poster-girl of American football believes it was ‘huge’ that Manchester City ’s new signing had nailed down a starting spot for herself.

White has beaten off a strong challenge from Jodie Taylor to become Phil Neville’s first-choice striker.

She scored her fifth goal of the tournament during Thursday's 3-0 quarter-final win over Norway, with Lucy Bronze and Jill Scott also finding the net.

Four players have netted five so far – White, Megan Rapinoe, Australia’s Sam Kerr and Morgan herself.

And Morgan believes that White needs special attention ahead of the USA's meeting with the Lionesses in Lyon on Tuesday.

She said: “White is obviously coming into this next game really confident.

“She has gained that starting spot and that’s huge for her.

“For us we have to look at her because of the goals she is scoring.

“We also know we have to look at the wingers and the speed that they have, and the 10 spot, looking at Kirby.

“They have a lot of talent on the team. We’re going to have to look at England quite quickly.”

Morgan’s team-mate, Sam Mewis added: “England are a good team – we know that.

“We played them recently, so now it’s about us looking at what they have, breaking it down and figuring out a game-plan.

“They are dangerous down that right flank but they have a lot of threats.

“We’ll continue to play our own game, but there’s a lot of things we are going to have to focus on because we know they are a well-rounded team, dangerous in a lot of areas – and they are playing really well.”
