Alex McLeish quizzed on Scotland future after toiling to victory in San Marino

Alex McLeish refused to be drawn on his Scotland future after his side limped to a lacklustre win in San Marino.

Scotland won just 2-0 against the world's worst side, hot on the heels of a 3-0 humiliation against Kazakhstan on Thursday night.

It appeared McLeish's men would have a far easier time of it tonight when they raced into the lead after just three minutes, Kenny McLean stooping to head home Ryan Fraser's cross.

Yet the visitors had to wait until the 74th minute for a second, Johnny Russell smashing the ball into the net after good wing play from sub James Forrest.

'F*** the SFA' Scotland fans vent their anger at Hampden bigwigs

The Tartan Army chanted 'F*** the SFA ' and 'sack the board' for large swathes of the game, amid increasing calls for the Scotland boss to get the boot.

Yet the manager wouldn't entertain such calls, which are strengthening on the back of a desperately disappointing week for the man in the Hampden hotseat.

Asked if today's result piles more pressure him, McLeish said: "I don't really think of it that way.

"I do believe it was obviously very important that we won the game. We dealt with it. We did want more goals of course, and that makes everybody a wee bit happier. I think all the Scotland results and performances here before was just 2-0.

"In the end, we should have had four or five."

And, commenting on the week which has seen Scotland take just three points from an expected six, the manager added: "We got a whirlwind start against us from the Kazakhs and it really set us back in that whole game, and I think it left a few of us shellshocked.

"But we dealt with the second game, if not fantastically, but it was professional enough."
