Concerned Alex McLeish believes Paul Lambert's instant shutdown of links to the Celtic highlights the major issue facing the next Parkhead boss.
Lambert claimed earlier this week that there was here's nothing that could convince him to take the job following his departure from Ipswich.
The Hoops' legend insisted a massive rebuild is needed in Glasgow's east end but feared Neil Lennon's replacement won't get time to put in place a new vision.
Ex-Rangers boss McLeish admits the next permanent boss will have to hit the ground running and battle The Light Blues for the Premiership title.
However, he doesn't believe the new man will be afforded the luxury of time like Steven Gerrard has at Ibrox.
McLeish told Football Insider: “It was interesting to hear Paul saying that because it looks like he doesn’t feel it’s going to be a quick fix.
“There has to be some rebuilding done and that is difficult when you’re an Old Firm manager, to be patient.
"Rangers fans have been right behind Stevie G for three years and he’s slowly built the team.
“The new man has to be aware they have to hit the ground running as well.
“It’s difficult for Old Firm fans to say ‘Okay, we’ll give this guy a couple years. We’ll just be patient.’
"As soon as it’s a defeat or a draw, it’s chaos."
