Alex McLeish 'holds crunch summit' with SFA chief Ian Maxwell over Scotland future

Alex McLeish has held crunch talks with SFA chief Ian Maxwell over his future as Scotland boss, according to a report.

Record Sport exclusively revealed earlier this month that McLeish's time in the Hampden hotseat is to be brought to a premature end after a disastrous opening to the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

A humiliating defeat to Kazakhstan was followed up by an unconvincing win over world's worst side San Marino as Scotland fans called for big Eck to go.

A Record Sport poll revealed almost 90 per cent of fans were demanding a change in management and now McLeish has moved one step closer to the sack after meeting Maxwell in London for talks, reports The Scottish Sun.

It's claimed McLeish retains the support of SFA president Alan McRae but that may not be enough to save him.

Our story also told how the 60-year-old had alarmed Scotland players and staff after a "deeply troubling episode" during a team meeting.

McLeish told League Managers' Association chief Richard Bevan that he was "absolutely fine".

Speaking after the San Marino clash, McLeish maintained he was not worried about his future.

He said: "I can only worry about what is in my control. I can only be thinking about the things within my control.

“I have concerns of whatever, but that’s not one of them. That’s not my decision.”
