Alex Jones has been forced to pull out of The One Show next week after a friend contracted coronavirus.
The 43-year-old host has needed to isolate and was replaced on today's show, which she was due to present alongside co-star Gethin Jones.
Alex appeared via video call from her home and explained the situation to viewers, revealing that she had met up with a pal who had tested positive for Covid-19.
Chatting to her replacement Alex Scott and Gethin, Alex said: "I am absolutely gutted that I am not there but what’s happened is a friend of mine, somebody outside work who I saw a few days ago, has tested positive for coronavirus.
“So we have done the right thing as a family and we are just isolating. Now I have taken a test and thankfully it is negative – by the way my friend is fine as well – but we are staying, we are following guidelines.
“I will probably be back at work the week after next.”
However, Alex admitted that she was enjoying being able to spend extra time with her children and husband Charlie Thomson.
She said: "There are definitely upsides to it.
“Charlie is back with the children, you can probably hear them just above me now, and I will go and read them some stories in a sec, which is lovely.
“The thing is, it is what it is. We are all in the same boat, so that’s it really. But I miss you all. I miss the crew as well.”
Alex's former longterm co-star Matt Baker quit the show earlier this year after almost 10 years.
Since then, she has been joined by a number of guest co-stars, including both Gethin and Alex.
