Alex Jones has had another nerve-racking visit to A&E with her two-year-old daughter Annie, just weeks after the toddler had already broken her elbow. The One Show host shared a photo from the hospital on Instagram on 2 June, showing a small hospital bed and a quiet Annie resting after what was a tough day.
Alongside the image, Alex wrote: “My view. Poor Annie has had a fall. Nothing serious, but she is wiped out, bless her, after a very long day.” It’s been a rough few weeks for the family, as Alex recently revealed on her Binge! podcast that Annie’s elbow injury had happened during a very enthusiastic game of Gladiators at home with her two older brothers — Teddy, 6, and Kit, 4, according to the Express.
“They got on an arm each, clashed in the middle, and somehow Kit fell against Annie’s elbow. And you know when you just know, because the cry is different?” she recalled. That accident led to a clean break in Annie’s elbow, and now this latest fall seems to have added to what’s already been a dramatic spell for the family.
This isn’t the first time the 48-year-old has had to make a dash to A&E recently. Earlier this year, she took one of her sons to hospital as well and shared a comforting image of him being treated with an iPad by his side. At the time, she wrote on Instagram: “Never gets any easier, but made so much better thanks to the amazingly kind and gentle staff.”
After Annie’s more recent mishap, Alex gave fans a follow-up selfie looking visibly relieved, along with the caption: “Such a relief that it’s done! Needless to say, I won’t be on @bbctheoneshow later but @laurenlaverne and @gabbylogan will look after you x.”
The chaos at home hasn’t been limited to bumps and breaks. Alex also recently opened up about her husband Charlie Thomson’s health struggles, saying that the couple had faced a “rough period” in 2023. Speaking on Gabby Logan’s podcast The MidPoint, she revealed just how much of a toll it had taken on their family life.
Alex and Charlie, who married in 2015 and share three children, went through a seriously difficult time when Charlie battled both Lyme Disease and viral meningitis. The TV presenter described how her husband had become a “shadow of himself” and that she had watched him “fall apart” as his mental health took a hit alongside his physical illness.
Thankfully, things are looking brighter now. Alex told Gabby: “He’s good, yes. He’s in a way better place now than we were a year ago, but diet has played a huge part in that. We always eat relatively well, but he’s quite into nutrition.”
She added that, for her, staying healthy isn’t just about her wellbeing but about staying strong for their kids. “I think what drives me is the fact that we have got three young children, and I feel, for them, I need to do the best to preserve myself.”
It’s been a whirlwind year for Alex and her family — but with resilience, a bit of humour, and plenty of hospital trips, she’s kept it all together.
