Alex Jones admits she was 'naive' over fertility issues and urges fans to heed her advice

Alex Jones has told any aspiring parents to heed her advice and try to start a family as soon as they can.

The TV presenter, 45, opened up on her "naivety" surrounding fertility issues and admitted she became obsessed with having kids.

The host of The One Show is now a mum of three, sharing Teddy, 5, Kit, 3, and Annie, 1, with hubby Charlie Thomson.

However, she suffered a miscarriage in 2017 and had her first child aged 39. She openly admits people are often brought up to try to avoid getting pregnant in their twenties, but says your mind can suddenly "flip" and you can become "obsessed" with the idea.

She revealed that what can often follow is the sheer disappointment when conceiving naturally takes a long time.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: "This is a whole new and different level of wanting — the disappointment and what it does to you as a couple."

And she opened up on her own experience, adding: "But I was really naive. I hadn’t thought about it. I thought, ‘well, there you are. We’ll try to have a baby and that’ll be lovely, and then a baby will arrive’. And, of course . . . how naive. You don’t have any control over it.

She went on to urge anyone wanting kids to take the leap and start trying at the earliest time possible if they're sure they want children.

"I would tell anybody that if you’re in a relationship and you know you want kids, go for your life as soon as you can," she said.

"But it’s not always that straightforward, is it? I think sometimes it’s not in your control."

Her words come as she prepares to introduce her new show on W, Alex Jones: Making Babies to fans in the new year.

In it, she trained as a fertility assistant at King's Fertility Clinic in London. And she revealed if she had went through the IVF process herself then her relationship might have suffered.

She said: "Christ, me and Charlie would be at each other’s throats if we went through that and we are pretty rock solid. But it does stuff to you, doesn’t it? It’s so super-stressful."

It isn't the first fertility programme Alex will front. In 2016 she was in Fertility And Me. In it, she confessed she wasn't ready to become a parent until meeting Charlie in her mid-thirties.
