Alex Iwobi's time at Everton summed up in brutal verdict after his £34m transfer from Arsenal

Former Arsenal academy graduate Alex Iwobi has been criticised by former Everton star Michael Ball, who has been less than impressed with the lack of impact the winger has made since joining the club in 2019.

Iwobi, 25, signed in Merseyside for a fee worth to be around £34million- a fee that was met with surprise from many Gunners fans when the transfer itself occurred.

The Nigerian has made two appearances so far this season in Rafa Benitez's new-look Toffees side and has not made a great impression so far to Evertonians, who were willing to give the winger another chance after failing to make impacts under previous regimes, including Carlo Ancelotti.

In 67 appearances so far in all competitions, the 25-year-old has only helped in a total of nine contributions during the two and a bit campaigns of his Everton stay so far.

This had led to criticism from fans and some former players, who don't see the worth of Iwobi going forward in Benitez's project to try and get the club back into Europe.

One of those is former Everton left-back Ball, who has delivered a brutal verdict of the former Arsenal winger's time at Everton so far.

Speaking to This Is Futbol, he said: “Yeah it hasn’t worked out for him. He came to the football club with that chunk of a fee.

“The reaction of the Arsenal fans didn’t really help, I think they were very pleased with the amount of money they received for him.

“And you just hoped that [Alex] Iwobi would come to the football club with the attitude to prove them all wrong and show everybody that he is worth that amount of money and he’s got the ability to step up to the plate but, unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out for him.”

The Super Eagles international made a total of 149 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 15 goals and laying on 27 assists.

He will be remembered best by some supporters for his stunning strike in the Europa League final defeat to Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea in the 2018/19 season, although his effort was merely a consolation for the Gunners as they lost the game 4-1.
