Alex Iwobi backed to be a big success at Everton

Alex Iwobi has been backed to deliver by the assistant coach of the Nigerian national team after his deadline day switch from Arsenal to Everton.

Iwobi has yet to play for Everton but has witnessed the Toffees collect four points from two games.

However, the Blues have only scored one goal - highlighting their need to further develop attacking quality.

Iwobi was bought by Everton for around £28million and, speaking to FootballLive.NG, Imama Amapakabo said: “I think he has been able to prove himself that he’s a good player.

"He didn’t just sell himself to Everton, they came for him knowing the reason why they came for him and the role he’s going to play for them."

He thinks that Iwobi will be able to show more of himself as the season progresses, and added: “The league just started in England, let’s give him some time we will be able to have a discussion with anyone that will doubt Iwobi’s capabilities.”

Amapakabo also called on the fans to back Iwobi as he adapts to playing for Everton.

He said: “He is a young lad, and he has his football ahead of him so, let us give him all the backing that we need to give him.

"Hopefully at the end of the season we would be able to take stock of how well he has fared with Everton.”

Everton face Aston Villa on Friday night and Iwobi will be hoping to get his first minutes for the club.
