Alex Gogic on brink of of Cyprus call-up as Hibs standout set to be rewarded for dominant displays

Alex Gogic’s impressive start with table-topping Hibernian has put him on the brink of a Cypriot call-up.

The midfielder, who will play against Dundee United tonight, has caught the eye of new Cyprus national coach Johan Walem.

Walem is currently looking at his options as he prepares to name his first squad.

Cyprus have Nations League fixtures with Montenegro and Azerbaijan next month and Gogic is very much in Walem’s thoughts.

The national coach and his scouts will continue to watch Gogic over the next few games before he names his final squad.

The 26-year-old has made an instant impact at Easter Road since his summer move from Hamilton.

Hibs have won their first two games against Kilmarnock and Livingston and will be looking to continue their fine Premiership form at Tannadice this evening.

Gogic was also one of Hamilton’s top performers last season but that went unnoticed on the international front.

The Nicosia-born star has not played for Cyprus since he was at Swansea City.

He has previously won caps at under-19 and 21 level.
