Dr Alex George says hospital treating Boris Johnson for coronavirus saved his life

Dr Alex George has revealed he received life-saving treatment at the hospital where Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently in intensive care battling coronavirus.

The former Love Island star, 30, is currently working on the NHS frontline and has sent his well wishes to the PM as he is helped by medics at London's St Thomas' Hospital.

Dr Alex has now revealed the Conservative leader is in the best possible hands, as he received life-saving treatment at the hospital himself.

In a post on Twitter, the doctor-turned-reality TV star explained he was struck down with sepsis, a potentially fatal blood infection, and was nursed back to the health by the staff at St Thomas.

Alex said NHS staff are working seven days a week, and there will not be enough staff to cope if cases spread (Instagram)

He wrote: "St Thomas’s hospital saved my life a few years ago when I was septic. I owe them my life. Boris is in the best hands."

The medic went on to scold trolls who have suggested Johnson's admission to ICU is simply a "political stunt".

He added: "Those saying Boris has been admitted to ICU as a political stunt.

"I don’t know any details but what I can say is, as doctors we DO NOT admit people to intensive care for political gain or otherwise. Get well soon PM."

Johnson was admitted to the intensive care ward at the hospital on Monday night as his coronavirus symptoms worsened.

He was diagnosed with Covid-19 more than 10 days ago but had struggled to shake off a cough and a temperature.

DR ALEX SAYS HE'S PREPARING FOR BATTLE AS HE TREATS CORONAVIRUS PATIENTS

Dr Alex has spent the last few weeks pleading with fans to stay at home in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.

Yesterday, he begged followers for a place to stay after revealing his current tenancy on his home near the London hospital where he works is coming to an end.

On his Instagram story, Alex wrote: "I need to move out of where I am staying due to the tenancy period expiring.

"Does anyone have a place I could rent short term for the next month or so?

"Need to be in central/south/southwest London to be close to A&E. Thank you."
