Alex Dyer explains Kilmarnock role differences as caretaker manager states his case to replace Angelo Alessio

Kilmarnock caretaker manager Alex Dyer isn't ruling himself out of the running to replace Angelo Alessio, as he insists the Ayrshire side's luck will turn.

The Italian was sacked this week after just six months in charge and the man who assisted both Alessio and Steve Clarke has been placed in temporary charge.

Killie were beaten by Motherwell at Rugby Park this afternoon but the Englishman is confident he can turn things around.

Dyer said: "It's different, being a No1 for the day or however long, but it's nothing too different to what I would do anyway.

"I still did the warm-up, still talked to the lads the same way - I didn't try to do anything different, apart from doing the team talk.

“I know what I need to do if I got the job.

“But what we’ve done in the past up until now has served us quite well.

"Just because we’ve had one or two bad results doesn't mean we have to change it all.

“We do what we’re good at and it’ll turn.

“I believe that. They work hard every day and without a doubt it’ll turn for us, whether it's against Rangers on Thursday or St Mirren next Sunday.

"We just have to keep working hard.

"It was frustrating but the boys gave their all, created a few chances. Their keeper was very good though.

“There’s still a lot to be positive about. Brophy puts a decent chance over the bar but that’s just a confidence thing - sometimes you go through a period where you can't score, can't take the chances you’d normally put in.

"It doesn't happen for you, but we’ll keep knocking down the door and hopefully it will open.

“I just want us to stay in the top half and perform well and send the fans home happy."
