CHICAGO _ Alex DeBrincat scored two goals and Patrick Kane notched his 30th goal of the season as the Blackhawks held off the Oilers' third-period rally to win 4-3 on Thursday.
DeBrincat's season at times has been marked by frustrating, almost inexplicable droughts.
"I think just the puck hasn't gone in the net as often," coach Jeremy Colliton said before the game. "He's had the chances. He's had as many opportunities. It's not like I went through game by game. I think both shots and quality of chances they've been there for him. That will even out over time."
Turns out "time" was just several hours later.
About five minutes into the second, DeBrincat fired one in from the top of the right circle through traffic. About eight minutes later, he snapped his second goal just inside the left post as teammate Drake Caggiula screened Edmonton goaltender Mike Smith.
In the first period, Kane squeezed in a top-shelf goal him from the bottom of the left circle to mark his fifth 30-goal season in his career and fourth in his last five seasons.
For the second game in a row, the Hawks came out with the hot hand in a goal-heavy second period.
Against the Ducks, they put up four goals to Anaheim's one. On Thursday against the Oilers, Jonathan Toews scored 47 seconds in on a wrap-around goal. DeBrincat added his two goals before Ryan Nugent-Hopkins put Edmonton on the board.
But the Oilers turned up the pressure in the third period, firing 10 shots at Corey Crawford. He faced just four in the second.
Josh Archibald scored on a two-on-one with Zack Kassian. It took a video review to confirm Kailer Yamamoto's goal 51 seconds later.
Adam Boqvist had two assists for the Hawks.
