CHICAGO _ Alex DeBrincat tried to make up for lost time in a lost season Sunday.
The rookie hadn't scored a goal in 13 games, his longest drought by five games, before he swatted in two during the first period and the go-ahead goal with 3:13 left in the third.
But that wasn't enough to earn the Hawks a victory.
That belonged to the Blues, 5-4, thanks to Patrik Berglund's goal late in overtime.
DeBrincat's 23rd, 24th and 25th goals of the season tied him with Patrick Kane for the team lead.
The first came on a power play 13 minutes, 7 seconds into the first. The second 6:01 later.
The two-goal lead he gifted the Hawks quickly was ungifted when the Blues made good on a pair of power plays during the second period _ one by Alexander Steen 2:02 in and the other by Vince Dunn a little more than three minutes later.
The Blues were 30th in the NHL on the power play coming into the game.
The Hawks caught a break with 1:57 left in the second when the puck tricked past Berube and appeared to cross the line when Jordan Oesterle swiped it away. After it was initially ruled a goal that would have given the Blues a 3-2 lead, the call was reversed after a review.
And while the Hawks have scored first in 43 of 73 games this season, they are just 23-14-6 when doing so and have the seventh-worst winning percentage in the league.
