DETROIT _ In his second game on the top line with Jonathan Toews and newcomer Anthony Duclair, 20-year-old rookie Alex DeBrincat ended a seven-game dry spell 3 minutes, 19 seconds into Thursday's game against the Red Wings, the first of his three goals during his team's 5-1 victory at Little Caesars Arena.
The victory ended the Hawks' losing streak at four.
Duclair's first goal while wearing a Blackhawks sweater followed in short order, 2:24 later, with help from DeBrincat and Keith.
A little more than three minutes after that, Vinnie Hinostroza took a pass from Duclair and deposited it past Jimmy Howard, spelling the end for the Red Wings goalie, who was yanked in favor of Petr Mrazek, who shut out the Hawks in the last meeting between the teams.
For a split second, Duncan Keith looked like he had made it 4-0 in the second. After Mike Green shoved Duclair into the net, Mrazek pinned him in there as what would have been Keith's first score on his 116th shot on goal this season sailed by.
But officials immediately waved it off because they had blown the play dead.
DeBrincat followed with another goal, and completed the hat trick late in the third period with an empty-net goal.
The Hawks improved to 23-19-7, while the Red Wings fell to 19-21-8.
