With teams across the league losing players, in some cases multiple players, due to the league’s health and safety protocols, it’s important to understand what those protocols are. There are many questions right now about how the NBA is handling things, particularly after Philadelphia’s Seth Curry left the bench mid-game after getting a positive coronavirus test. The case of Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso may be an interesting one to look at to see all of the types of contact with the virus that may trigger protocols.
Following the Lakers win on Friday over Chicago, Caruso told reporters that he missed over a week of action because he came in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus over the Christmas holiday. As a bit of context, Los Angeles County is the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States.
Alex Caruso said he was in the health and safety protocols due to contract tracing after some he knew and trusted "stopped by" after Christmas and tested positive a couple days later. Caruso missed five games before returning to the lineup tonight vs. San Antonio.

Earlier on Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that both Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal have each entered the NBA’s coronavirus protocols.
