Alex Bruce insists he can step up and help Kilmarnock qualify for Europe.
The veteran defender was called into action at Celtic Park as he was the only centre-back available for Steve Clarke to select. In his only previous start for Killie he got injured at Ibrox and subbed off after 25 minutes during the 5-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Rangers.
But at Celtic Park he paired up with midfielder Gary Dicker at the back, creating a solid partnership.
And with Kirk Broadfoot to miss the next two games – Hearts away and Hibs at home – English stopper Bruce looks set to play a key role in Killie’s Europa League bid.
He said: “It has been frustrating so far, especially when I started against Rangers and had to come off injured.
“I was just pleased to play 90 minutes against Celtic and do alright to be honest.
Liverpool loanee Liam Millar insists he won't rule out return to Kilmarnock
“Kirk and Stuart [Findlay] have done a great job this season.
“When I first came I was under no illusion that I would have to wait for my chance.
“I hope that I have done enough to keep my place and help with the last few games.”
He added: “The next three games are massive, and the gaffer has told us he expects three wins.
“If we can get, say, seven points then it will give us a good chance of getting into those European places.
“We want to finish the season strong, it has been good so far.”
