Alex Beresford says massive row meant no sleep ahead of first GMB hosting role

Today marked Alex Beresford’s first day on the Good Morning Britain hosting panel - but he wasn’t quite as well rested as he’d hoped to be.

The night before his big day a massive row at his hotel meant that he got little sleep before his debut appearance on the ITV show next to co-host Kate Garraway.

Ben Shephard usually appears on the panel with Kate, but he is currently having time off while he films the latest series of Tipping Point.

Alex, who is the programme’s weather presenter, admitted he was nervous ahead of his shift, but also tired due to getting little sleep.

He told Kate, 53, that after checking into a hotel the night before, he was disturbed by a couple in the room next door rowing about their careers.

The night before his big day a massive row at his hotel meant that he got little sleep before his debut appearance on the ITV show next to co-host Kate Garraway (ITV)

Kate gave Alex a warm introduction, saying: "Welcome to the programme. How exciting is this, welcome to Alex Beresford.

"Not lording it over your weather map, but here at the desk."

Alex, 39, laughed and explained that he’d love to be sitting closer to Kate, but cannot due to social distancing rules.

When Kate asked how he was feeling, he admitted it was a mixture of emotions.

"I am very excited, everyone keeps saying they are very excited for me, I'm also very nervous," he said.

Kate then asked him whether he got any sleep the night before - the hosts have to get up in the early hours to be ready for the show's 6am start.

Alex replied: "So I checked into the hotel yesterday. All was fine, and then at around one o'clock this morning, a couple next door decided to have a row about whose career was more important.

"And I wanted to knock on the door and say, 'Actually I've got a pretty big job tomorrow myself! Can you be quiet?"

Kate laughed and added: “My career’s quite important!”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
