Alex Beresford returns to Good Morning Britain for the first time since Piers Morgan exit

Presenter Alex Beresford has returned to Good Morning Britain, ten days after the incident in which Piers Morgan stormed off-air.

Beresford was praised for his conduct on the programme, criticising Morgan for his remarks about Meghan Markle.

Morgan’s comments, which included the suggestion that he thought the Duchess of Cambridge was lying about experiencing suicidal thoughts during her time as a senior royal, prompted a record number of complaints to broadcast watchdog Ofcom (more than 57,000).

On 9 March, the morning after Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey aired in the UK, Beresford condemned Morgan for “trashing” Markle, and said the segments in which Morgan discussed the Duchess were “incredibly hard to watch”.

Morgan quit the series just hours after walking off during Beresford’s speech.

Now Beresford, who regularly presents the weather forecast on Good Morning Britain, has returned to the series.

The presenter appeared in good spirits as he treated audiences to a beatboxing display, and fans were quick to cheer his return on social media.

“Good Morning Alex, it’s good to see you getting back to being you,” wrote one viewer.

“Lovely lighthearted feel to the show this morning, just what we need at the end of the week,” wrote someone else.

“Alex great to see you back, love GMB again now,” wrote another viewer. “The atmosphere of intimidation has gone and it just feels like a team again.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
