Alex Baptiste's first words after agreeing new Bolton Wanderers contract

Alex Baptiste believes promotion last season was up there with his best achievements in football and believes Bolton Wanderers are moving in the right direction.

The 35-year-old central defender has signed a new deal with Wanderers for another 12 months at the club.

He joined Bolton for a second spell last summer and went on to play more than 40 times for the club in all competitions.

He went on to establish himself as a first choice selection in defence, particularly in the second half of the campaign where he and Ricardo Almeida Santos formed a watertight partnership at the back.

After putting pen to paper on a fresh deal, the former Blackpool defender is pleased to have his future sorted and feels credit for the club's positive momentum must be given to the ownership.

And he believes the Whites are only going in an upwards trajectory following promotion to League One.

Baptiste said: “I am delighted to have got it done. The club is moving in the right direction and massive credit must go to the board and staff.

“Getting promoted with the club was one of my best achievements in the game.

“I’m looking forward to next season and there is only one way this club is moving and that is up.”
