Alessandro Del Piero hails Mohamed Salah and labels him Liverpool's new 'God'

Alessandro Del Piero has praised Mohamed Salah, describing him as Liverpool’s new ‘God’.

Robbie Fowler used to be called ‘God’ by fans but the Reds now have a new hero to worship in their Egyptian King.

Since joining the club in the summer of 2017, he’s bagged an incredible 89 goals in 138 appearances.

He netted 50 times in the Premier League in just 72 games, making him the fourth quickest player to reach that landmark behind Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.

And he’s already netted 18 times this season.

Speaking at the Laureus Awards, Del Piero hailed the Egyptian, declaring: “Salah is already a God - and not only in Egypt!

“When he was at Roma, I remember how many times he was in front of the goal and then he missed the goal.

“And then all of a sudden, at Liverpool he improved that and he scored more than 30 goals per season!

“When you have this kind of mentality that you want to improve yourself, to grow - it’s the best thing.”

Sarah has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot in his first two seasons at Anfield.

With 14 in the league so far, Salah has helped guide Jurgen Klopp’s side to a record 25-point lead in the top-flight.

Klopp has also spoken in glowing terms about the forward recently, having been asked if he considers him to be under-appreciated.

He said: “Under-appreciated? I don’t feel that to be honest.

“If he scored 44 goals in three successive seasons then that would have been really cool and maybe we would have won the league last year!

“For the player, he is an exceptional character and he will never stop really.

“He wants to play and I am not sure how many games he has missed but that is just him.

“He is and became a natural goalscorer, that is how it is.”
