Alesha Dixon explains why she hid pregnancies from family and friends for six months

Alesha Dixon has disclosed why she hid her pregnancies from family and friends for six months.

The Britain's Got Talent judge, 41, decided to keep her two pregnancies shielded from public knowledge until very close to the births.

Alesha has two children with husband Azuka Ononye: baby Anaya Safiya and six-year-old Azura Sienna.

Now, speaking on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, Alesha opened up on her decision to keep her pregnancies private.

She said: "I think that at the time the thinking was because Azuka and I had been together for a long time I hadn't put it out and it wasn't that we were hiding from any particular reason."

It was the fact that their relationship had been private that they decided that the pregnancies should be too.

Alesha: "So, the first thing was, well no one even knows we're in a relationship and now I’m pregnant… How are we going to get around this? We’ll just hide it."

She had revealed she was carrying her second child last year during the Britain's Got Talent 2019 semi-finals.

"I don’t want to say 'I’m pregnant' when people don’t even know I’m in a relationship and then distract from the show and, in my mind, I was like let’s just finish the show so that it can have its moment without any pregnancy malarkey and then we can announce that we’re pregnant," explained Alesha.

"And that’s pretty much what we did. The live show wrapped and I went down to Cornwall with my family, told all of them."

However, not everyone was pleased by Alesha deciding to keep her second journey to motherhood under wraps, as her grandmother was "furious".

Alesha revealed: "My Mum knew, Bernadette who works with me, she knew, and a close friend knew but yeah, I kept it quiet."

Thankfully, the star said she had "a good seamstress" to help her cover-up the bumps until that point, but joked that "the bill for the tailor that year was quite high".

We imagine it would be, as her plan was quite a feat!

Britain's Got Talent returns on ITV on Saturday, April 11, 2020.
