NEW DELHI: Alert air traffic controllers at Nagpur airport on Tuesday evening asked an incoming IndiGo flight to go around after observing that a Pawan Hans helicopter had crossed the holding point on a taxiway where it was supposed to stop before entering the runway after getting clearance to do so once the aircraft had landed.
The IndiGo Delhi-Nagpur flight, 6E 2066, landed safely in the second attempt.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has ordered a probe into this runway incursion and the Pawan Hans pilots have been derostered (takeoff flying duty) pending the outcome of the probe, said a senior regulatory official.
The incident happened just before 5 pm on Tuesday. “A Pawan Hans ALH Dhruv helicopter (VT-HAQ) crossed holding point on taxiway A for Nagpur airport runway, leading to a runway incursion. As a result, 6E-2066 was instructed to go around,” said a senior official.
