Chelsea have reached an agreement with Manchester United for Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine winger has not featured at all this season for Ruben Amorim’s side after he was told by the Portuguese head coach to find a new club.

Garnacho had reportedly been angling for a move to Chelsea all summer, and now Standard Sport understands that a deal worth £40m has been struck for him to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Garnacho had long agreed personal terms with Enzo Maresca’s side, who were relying on outgoings to proceed on a deal for the 21-year-old.

The forward is set to undergo a medical on Friday.

It is believed that United have also inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause into the deal, with the agreement coming just hours after Chelsea had accepted AC Milan’s offer to sign Christopher Nkunku.

The Blues will land a key target as the summer transfer deadline approaches on September 1, and Garnacho could compete with Jamie Gittens, signed from Borussia Dortmund earlier in the window, for a starting berth on the left flank.

The forward played 36 times in the Premier League for United last term, scoring six and assisting twice as the Red Devils finished 15th in the table.

He featured in 15 Europa League games, getting on the scoresheet once.

Since the start of pre-season, Garnacho has been training away from the first-team squad at Carrington as part of a ‘bomb squad’ that United are trying to sell before the end of the window.

Within that cohort is Jadon Sancho, who Chelsea sent back to Manchester after paying a penalty fee to nullify the obligation they had to buy him after his loan spell in west London last season.

Antony and Tyrell Malacia are also surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, while Rasmus Hojlund is nearing a move to Napoli and Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan.
