Alec Baldwin says he's 'so done' playing Trump on Saturday Night Live

Alec Baldwin says he’s “so done” performing his acclaimed impression of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live.

The actor and comedian told USA Today he “can’t imagine” returning for the show’s next season, and that showrunners should “find somebody who wants to do it”.

Baldwin has played the president on SNL since his campaign in 2016 and earned the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2017 for the part.

Asked who he would like to see pick up the part in the future, Baldwin named a few contenders, including SNL fixture Darrell Hammond and fellow Trump impersonator Anthony Atamanuik.

“If [Atamanuik] wants the job, it’s his. He can have it. I’ve done that,” Baldwin said.

“I mean, I had a lot of fun with [the cast], and when Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider wrote [Trump sketches in 2016 and 2017], that was new, it was fresh and the ratings were good.

“But I feel like I’m done with that now. I’m so done with that.”

Baldwin added that he plans to focus on his other work (he plays John DeLorean, the inventor of the sports car made famous by Back To the Future, in a new documentary film) as well as on his family.

SNL’s 44th season wrapped up in May. The show is expected to return in September this year.
